Do Not Hoard the Solution

By Patrick O Anyanwu

“And now let Pharaoh look for a discerning and wise man and put him in charge of the land of Egypt...” (Gen 41:33–36).

Ideas can change families, organizations, nations, and even generations. When a good idea is put into practice and brings results, it is easy to see why people value those who can think clearly and offer solutions. But wisdom is not only in having an idea. Wisdom is also in what you do with it.

When Joseph stood before Pharaoh, his assignment was simple: interpret the dream. That was what he had been called in to do. And he did it. But Joseph did not stop there. He moved beyond interpretation and offered a solution. He told Pharaoh what should be done, how it should be done, and why it must be done quickly.

That was bold. Joseph could have withheld that insight. He could have used it as leverage. He could have decided to protect his advantage and bargain for his freedom first. After all, he was still a prisoner. He could have reasoned that if Egypt needed his wisdom, then Egypt should pay for it before receiving it. That is often how people think. *Why give my best now if someone else may get the credit? Why offer the answer if I am still waiting for my own breakthrough?*

But Joseph was not driven by self-preservation. He was driven by service. This is what stands out to me in his life. He did not seem to be the kind of man who hoarded solutions. Whether in Potiphar’s house, in prison, or before Pharaoh, Joseph consistently used what God had given him to serve the need in front of him. He was not waiting for the perfect title, the perfect platform, or the perfect recognition before he gave his best. He understood that what God places in us is not meant to be buried, hidden, or held hostage until our personal interests are guaranteed.

This is an example for each of us. Sometimes we withhold our best because we are afraid. We fear being overlooked, unrewarded, or used. We keep ideas in reserve. We hold back service. We wait for better conditions, more visibility, or personal security before we pour out what God has entrusted to us. But the kingdom does not operate on selfish calculation. It operates on faithful stewardship.

Joseph reminds us that when God gives you insight, wisdom, or a solution, it may be because someone else’s need is the very door to your own advancement. What if your breakthrough is tied to your willingness to serve without scheming? What if the answer you are tempted to protect is the very thing God wants you to release?

We must be careful not to become people who serve only when profit is certain. God did not give us gifts to decorate our ego or secure our image. He gave them so that through us, life, hope, and healing can come to others.

So when the moment comes, do not hold back what God has placed in you. Speak. Serve. Offer the solution, and leave the reward in His hands.

Prayer:
Father, save me from the seduction of self-interest. Deliver me from the fear that makes me hide what You have placed in me. Teach me to serve freely, faithfully, and wholeheartedly. Help me not to hoard wisdom, ideas, or solutions for selfish gain, but to pour out what You have given me for Your glory and for the good of others. In Jesus’ name, amen.
